Tuber Planting Instructions

WARNING: DAHLIAS ARE COLD SENSITIVE AND SHOULD NOT BE PLANTED UNTIL ALL DANGER OF FROST HAS PASSED

Step 1

Locate a well-draining location that receives full sun. (Dahlias hate having “soggy feet”)

Step 2

Amend the soil with a high-quality compost.

Tip: Soil testing will tell you exactly what you need to amend with but starting with well-aged compost is a good start!

Step 3

Plant your tubers 6” deep and at least 12” apart (Pro tip: a tuber’s size does not determine the size of the plant!)

step 4

Provide consistent watering only after plants have emerged…. This is a big one! Watering before your plants emerge could rot your precious tubers!

Step 5

Use sturdy posts to provide support. Some varieties can grow up 4’ tall—by placing a wooden stake, tomato cage, or similar you can prevent top heavy plants from tipping over.
